The Route

Carvannel Downs

The North Coast Trail

This trail is almost completely off road. Running from Portreath, you will start on the beach, make a right turn and head up Battery Hill road. This uphill quickly ends with a downhill towards some houses. Though a gate and you turn an immediate right and up Western Hill via the steps, on a trail. This can be dry or muddy (depending on the weather)

This continues for about a mile before you join harder ground and the double dip at Carvannel Downs which is a mix of stone and shale. After Bassets Cove, you then run on a path created by the National Trust for ease of access, this is a gravel/stone mix. About a mile out from Hells Mouth the path returns to soil. .You make the turn at Hells Mouth and follow the coast path back to Portreath. At Western Hill, you take the right turn and the shorter route back to Portreath.
