Welcome and Hello

Welcome to the inaugural Lamarth Backyard Ultra

Cornwall's only backyard ultra set in a beautiful farm location, near Helston

An interesting ultra challenge that sets you against yourself.

Do I go out hard and have time to rest or take it steady throughout the challenge?

You are able to arrive on the campsite from noon on the Thursday and set up, ready for the race. Make sure you and your guest check in, then relax on the site or pop out for a walk down the beach, the rest of that day is yours.

All the services you could ask for are provided for by the farm. Toilets, showers, a washing area, etc

There is also a freezer for ice packs and sockets for recharging devices.

The course is farm land. You are very welcome to do a recce on the Thursday to check it out.

It is almost entirely hard packed soil with some grass and a little stony track

It will be marked with yellow arrows and all the turns will be marked with electric fence posts and bright tape.

The food and water station will be at the start/finish line as will be the toilets.

REMEMBER whatever breaks you take, you must be back in the start box before the bell rings!

The whole concept of the backyard is the mental challenge, are you ready?

Thank you to all the businesses that support us and all the volunteers. These events would never happen without you

See you all at the Lamarth Farm  on Thursday 22nd August 2024

Health and Safety

We do our absolute best to make sure your day goes swimmingly but sometimes things go wrong.

If you are unwell, please do not turn up and try to run. The whole thing could unravel very quickly.

Look after yourself and your well being first

Please dress appropriately for the weather. It's a Cornish Summers, you could get anything!

The kit list for this event is advisory but it is built on years of knowledge. We would not run without it

No on the day entries and you will be asked for photo ID.

For safety and medical reasons, we must make sure nobody is running under someone else's name. It is foolhardy and dangerous

Please fill out all the details on the back of your bib number. This is in case you get into difficulties.

It also has our emergency contact numbers on it

We have Omega Medical attending the event and looking after all the runners. They have been at every Bys Vyken event since 2016 and are thoroughly experienced. We would not trust anyone else

If at any point, you feel the need to retire from the event. Please get word to a marshal or contact us directly. We need to know that you are safe. There will be safety arrows out on the course, directing you to the shortest route back.

Please respect the environment and do not litter, deliberate acts of littering will be a disqualification

Please overtake runners responsibly and also give way to other runners safely. Respect everyone

The event is timed with ankle tags, so please think where you would like to be at the start line. May not be worth getting trampled on by the stampede.

This race has no cut offs, you just have to beat the clock and keep going

Other things to remember

This is a loop event. You will be out there with a lot of runners, please respect each other. If you feel you are going to smash a loop, then get out front. If you are going to plod then please hang back. Its open fields so plenty of room but it will be tighter on the corners

Sorry, no dogs are allowed to run in this event

All photo ID shown must be a physical item, ie; drivers licence, passport

The aid station provide your standard fare for a race day, crisps, nuts, sweets and fruit. There are large water containers at each station as well as cola.

Bys Vyken are a cup less events company so please bring your own.

There will also be hot food served from noon until the end of the event. It will be simple hot food, Jacket potatoes, Bolognaise, pasta, rice, toast, soup

Please also be respectful at Lamarth Farm. They allow us to race here and we would like to continue to do so.
