Welcome and Hello
Fordh Sen Mighal
Bys Vyken Events welcomes you to the Fordh Sen Mighal which is the only race on the 'St Michaels way'. The UK's european designated route of culture
The race starts at Lelant Railway station on the Saltings. We start adjacent to the station car park at 10 am and run up Green Lane to Lelant Church. Marshals will guide you to the coast path beside the church. From there, you follow the St Michaels way for the whole route to the finish at Marazion.
This is a point to point race with 3 aid stations on route
The Cornish Arms in Carbis Bay
Trencrom Car Park
The White Hart in Ludgvan
The route is marked with the 'Way' symbol on blue arrows as well as the footpath posts and signs (lots of new ones out there) There will be Marshals at key points and road crossings to keep you safe and steer you in the right direction.
This race can be challenging with some big hill climbs and usually, a lot of mud. Oh and a beach finish
We look forward to meeting you all and seeing your happy faces at the finish
Event Schedule
Event HQ is at the St Uny's Church in Church Lane, Lelant, TR26 3DY
Registration is from 8 am until 9.30 am, follow the signs and the marshals
Parking at Lelant is notoriously bad. We highly recommend parking at Marazion and using the public transport to get you to the start. There is also parking at St Erth railway station (20 minute walk)
The event briefing will be at the church at 9.40 am, giving you time for a final comfort break before making your way down to the start
Race start is at 10 am sharp
You have 5 hour cut off to get to Marazion
Trophy presentation will be when 1st to 3rd Female and Male have finished
There is also a trophy for 1st team and the 'True Grit' award
There is a bag drop van but please keep it to a minimum, we cannot accept suitcases! The venues and Bys Vyken Events hold no responsibility for your belongings or your vehicles.
Health and Safety
We do our absolute best to make sure your day goes swimmingly but sometimes, things go wrong.
If you are unwell, please do not turn up and try and run. The whole thing could unravel very quickly. Look after yourself and your well being first.
In light of new government safety guidelines, please pay extra care attention when on the coast path or near large bodies of water. If you are unsure or feel unsafe, please make a marshal aware and we will get you to safety.
Please dress appropriately for the weather, this is a winter race and the Cornish weather can change instantly. I've run this race in a gale and the start is always very cold.
Some parts of the course are remote and you can easily get lost.
We have a recommended kit list which is built on years on experience.
There will be no entries on the day
I.D is always asked for
For safety and medical reasons, we must make sure nobody is running under someone else's name. It is foolhardy and dangerous.
Please fill out the details on the back of your bib number. This is in case you get into difficulties. It also has our emergency contact numbers on it
We have Omega Medical attending the event and looking after all the runners. They have been at every Bys Vyken Event since 2016 and are thoroughly experienced. We would not trust anyone else. If at any point, you feel the need to retire from the event, please get word to a marshal or contact us directly. We need to know that you are safe. You must return to the race finish as we may need the timer chip back if we are using ankle straps.
For your safety and for the marshals, we have a 5 hour cut off for this event with a 3 hour cut off at Trencrom. Cut offs are there to make sure everyone can complete these events safely. We will have marshals out there all that time and sometimes the weather can be extremely demanding.
Other things to remember
This is a point to point event. You will be passing each other on narrow paths. You are asked to respect each others distance and space when passing. This includes the tourists and walkers you will encounter on the path.
Sorry, no dogs allowed to run this event
All I.D must be in a physical form ie drivers licence, work pass etc
All aid stations provide you with simple fare for a race day. Crisps, nuts, sweets and fruit. There are also large water containers at each station as well as cola. Bys Vyken are a cup less events company so please bring your own
Please be respectful to the venues that are hosting us as well as other areas you may pass. They have welcomed us year after year and we would love to continue.
